Extension and renovation of St. Aloysiusinstitute and sportshall, Geel (BE) - NOAHH
The project unwinds on an existing school site and an adjacent vacant land in the city of Geel. Kogeka wants to transform the existing campus to a first grade school, where both ASO, TSO and BSO pupils are taught and can learn from each other. Kogeka wants to be progressive in this integrated education system. The transformation of the site consists of renovation, new building and a new sports complex on the adjacent property. The design of the building follows a planning idea to reduce the large scale of the binding courtyard playground. Not as an elongated bare playground as now, but a sequential space with multifarious use. The program folds within the buildings designed as flexible as possible.

Extension and renovation of St. Aloysiusinstitute and sportshall, Geel (BE)

About This Project

The transformation of the existing campus of the St. Aloysius Institute consists of renovation, as well as the design for a new building and a new sport complex adjacent to the campus. The design of the new area is inspired by flexibility and aims to create work and play areas suitable for children, replacing barren elongated playgrounds with versatile sequential areas. The new heart for the school – a central area where the reception, the open learning centre and the teachers’ room are located – is the focal point of the new school. The old Headmaster’s House was renovated, preserving the façade, and adding a glass ‘second skin’ to the building and the adjoining footbridge.
